When you are hosting an event, you want to spread the word, and you wanto to do it as efficiently and cheaply as possible. I know I do. We all know Facebook and all those big monsters, that can be used to send invitations. I am not going to talk about Facebook here, primarily for the fact that I don’t like their policies very much. There are plently of smaller alternatives, that are geared specifically towards making some noise for your event. Use them to send people invites, either to their mailbox, or by snail-mail. Some of the sites even let you rpint out the invitations, and some will even mail them for you.
In any case many of these services offer integration with Facebook, so you can still have use your account there.

Anyvite seems to be easy to use for creating online invitations. Choose one of the many provided designs for your invitation, or create your own by uploading a picture, searching Flickr, and/or choosing a pattern or color. Use the “Search For Location” link to find possible venues for your event. Public invitations allow anyone who accesses the provided URL to RSVP for your event. Great for large, open events. Lots of features. Both a free and Premium version.

Crush3r is a free service. Just click the “create event”, and add the geo-location for your event. Wil also let you poll your guests as to when is the best time for the event.

Enclude is an online invitation and eCard web site without ads. Enclude online invitations are clutter free, classic and easy to customize with your own photo. You can set-up, personalize & send your online invitation in just a few minutes.

My Punchbowl is free, if you can accept ads. They have a Plus and Premium membership, that cost USD 3 and 4 respectively. You can use them for all kinds of party planning and E-cards, etc.

Paperless Post is not ad-supported so your invitations will always remain personal and free of pop-ups and ads. Use it to send custom, personalized invitations and announcements with the same thought and care as previous generations, but the way we communicate today: online. Members can send out invitations for any occasion- dinner parties, anniversaries, save the dates. Not free.

Pingg lets you send online invitations and e-cards for free. They have something called Pingg Plus, which has lots of added features. It seems that Pingg Plus will coast a USD 10 one time fee, and it seems to be worth it, as iot gets you ad-free, and lots of good stuff.

Purple Trail is a free and ads-free online E-card maker. You can make, and send them online, and them choose to download them and print yourself, or have them mailed to you for an extra fee. They have more than 5,000 designs to choose from, and your guest replies are tracked automatically.

Sozializr lets you add it all, music, photos, video, flash for free. No ads in the invitations. Seems to be 100% free.

Zoji provides you with useful tools to help create and manage your group events and online invitations. Group forums, unlimited photo uploading and custom skins are some of their features. They are a free service with no hidden fees and no ads. You can create groups and events and send out email invitations to your friends to attend an event or join a group.

Icones is a searchengibe that specialises in finding icons on other sites. Works pretty much like Google, but for icons.

Iconpot is another collection of icons. All are freely downloadable, according to the site.

All Free vectors is an index of free vector files available on the World Wide Web. They link to free and public domain vector files, and allow people to upload their own vector files for free download.

Vista Icons is a very professionol looking site with thousands of great looking icons. Some restrictions apply to the icons, but you will find lots and lots of icons avalable for download for personal and even commercial use.

Wix deserves honorable mention here. This site is in a league of its own, if you like flash, but have always thought it was too hard to do.

There are some really nice sites out there, where you can create your own graphics, images etc., without paying a dime. They will let you edit and store them on the site. Using online editors from some of these sites, you can create really great looking images, even if you have no experience with working with images. Some of these sites are really amazing, and offer some pretty unique tools.

Apollo seems to be a way to work together on images, diagrams etc. Would probably be good for someone who works with graphics, and needs a client to comment on the artwork. The client cannot save the image, only comment on it, thus keeping your artwork safe. Looks free.

Brands of The World is a big library of brand logos in scalable vector format. You can search by country, company etc. BotW is also a great place for designers to upload their logo designs and professional details to get exposure, recognition and clients.

Gliffy is online diagram software, you can create professional-quality flowcharts, diagrams, floor plans, technical drawings, and more. Use tTheir online diagram editor to create various drawings. Gliffy is an online application that makes it easy for you to create, share, and collaborate with diagrams. There is a free version, or a USD 5 per month version.

GR Sites is a very nice online tool for making graphics for your website. Make buttons, boxes, backgrounds and lots of other nice stuff using the editor. You can use the free version that has certain restrictions, or pay a mothly or yearly fee (USD 9 and 5.75 respectively, or make use of the daypass that can be activated at any time. Definitely a good site if you want to creat nice graphics, and store them, without prior knowledge of graphics editing.

Live Banner Maker lets you create your own website banner for free. Use their templates, or start from scratch. They don’t brand your banner. You just selct the size, the colors, the text and effects, save it, and upload to your server. Can be used to create basic or intermediate banners.

Livebrush is a drawing application. It employs an easy-to-use brush tool that reacts to your gesture. By combining simple motion controls with brush styles, Livebrush offers a way to create graphics. Use graphics you create in Livebrush within your existing projects. Create entire compositions in Livebrush alone. Share styles and see how others combine your brush with their ideas

My Font Book is a nifty tool for viewing your font collection from your web browser. The font viewer allows you to easily review and catalog all of your installed fonts. The font viewer window provides an overview of all your installed fonts. I personally really like it, as it works 100% online, has a nice clean design, and works fast. Free.

OGIM is short for Online Image Gradient Maker, and it is a really excellent image maker, where you can make pretty much any kind of image using the editor on the site. Just open the editor, and start the image from scratch, or use some of the templates on the site.

Pixlr is a creator of online cloud-based image tools. They have a very impressive Photoshop-like image editor that is 100% online. You basically use your browser window to open something that feels almost like Photoshop and all the other expensive software programs, except this one is free. Try it out, and play around with all the amazing features. Recommended!

The Rasterbator creates huge, rasterized images from any picture. Upload an image, print the resulting multi-page pdf file and assemble the pages into extremely cool looking poster up to 20 meters in size. The Rasterbator is very easy to use. You can either upload a file from your computer or use any file that is publicly available in the Internet. After you have cropped the image and selected a desired size, the rasterbated image will be sent to you as an easily printable pdf file.

Listening to music is always great, and there are plenty of really nice sites that offer free legal streaming of first rate music. Many sites offer the ability to make your own playlists, and many of them have really extensive libraries of great music. Whether you like pop, r ‘n b, deathmetal, classical, or whatever, you can find it all online. If you are on this site, you already know this ofcourse, so lets just cut the cr.., and get on with it!

Deezer is a French site, and heavily slanted towards French music. Has a nice interface, and a big back-catalog of music. They have an app for most mobilephones, including iPhone and Android-based phones.

Finetune has a library of 2 million songs, they say. The only problem is that songs are played on what must be 64 kb/s, and not hi-fi quality. That means they are ok for background music, but not great. You have to sign up, which is free.

Grooveshark has to be my favourite site for streaming music. They have a great interface, and they have a huge library of music from many countries. You can make your own playlists, there are no ads, and they sound quality is generally really good! Unfortunately, they have been barred from iTunes so far, but they have an app for Android-phones. They have a free subscription, or a Premium subscription at USD 3 per month. The free one is excellent, though. Definitely worth a listen, you need to check this site out!

Jamendo is used by artists who allow anyone to download and share their music. It’s free, legal and unlimited. Jamendo is a platform for free and legal music downloads. Available in seven languages, it offers the largest catalog of music under Creative Commons licenses. On Jamendo, artists grant use of their music for private uses free of cost.

Jango is a free social music service that lets you create your own custom radio stations and share them with friends. Just type in what you want to hear – and your station will play the music you want along with similar favorites of other Jango users who share your taste. You can customize your stations further by adding more artists and rating songs. You can add as many artists as you want to your “station”. Has a nice clean interface, and seems easy to work with. No need to sign up to start listening to music.

Last FM is a music service that lets you discover new music you like, based on the music you already listen to. When signing up with Last.fm, you’ll get your own music profile, including your personal charts. As soon as you start listening to music on Last.fm, or with your media player on your computer all this music, they will add the music to your profile. To be honest, I prefer Grooveshark, as I have experienced songs disappearing form playlists with Last.fm. Furthermore, listening to music on Last.fm, costs 3 Euro, if you live ouside the U.K., the U.S. or Germany.

Mufin stands for music finder, and it’s a music discovery engine for helping you find and listen to music online. Mufin knows around 40 individual musical properties like rhythm, tempo, and instruments for each of the songs stored in its database. Just tell the machine what you like, and you will get similar tracks you might like as well immediately. They have a nice preview option, so you can check out the songs. Also offers a free player for download, with free online storage for 200 songs.

Musicovery has two memberships, free or a Premium membership for 4 USD per month. The premium membership gets you hi-fi quality music, and an interactive interface, where you can choose music according to your mood. Looks quite cool, but the the free version doesn’t offer all that much.

Shoutcast is a free-of-charge audio homesteading solution. It permits anyone on the internet to broadcast audio from their PC to listeners across the Internet. This means that you can either make your own station, or become a listener for free. Also avalable for Iphone/Ipod.

Soundcloud lets you move music. The platform takes the daily hassle out of receiving, sending & distributing music for artists, record labels & other music professionals. Receive tracks to your online dashboard where you can scan through, comment & remove tracks – all before downloading a thing. All your public tracks come with an audio player widget. Stick a SoundCloud DropBox on your site, or social network profile page and let any visitor send you a music track.

The Radio has one thing that is very annoying – audio commercials betwen songs. Apart from this, though, they let you easily search artists, catogories or time-periods (70’s, 80’s), etc. Ad-free music will cost you USD 2.95 per month for a personal subscription.

Tinysong lets you get links to any song in the world. Share those links with friends via Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, email or StumbleUpon. When you search for a song, they scour Grooveshark for that tune and serve up some options for you. Click Play to preview the song right in Tinysong, then choose the tune and get the link.

Tube Radio works very much like iTunes, except you search through all music-videos on YouTube at the same time, and can make playlists out of these. So basically, you search all music video content on YouTube, and Tube Radio helps you keep tabs on what you want to save, both audio and video. Tube Radio is free.

We Are Hunted is a pretty cool site that lets you know which 99 songs are the most sought and talked about on blogs on the internet at any given time. they search Spotify and Grooveshark as well, and they will let you play the songs in good sound quality. You can make you own chart, and they have a nice clean interface. Nice site!

Using the right font is something that can spice up your graphic work, whether it’s a website you are working on, or banners, T-shirts, posters or whatever.
The great thing is that there a quite a lot a nice sites that offer fonts for download. All the links provided below have something to do with fonts, and some of them can do amazing things with fonts. Check them out!

1001 Fonts is a site with literally 1000’s of fonts avaliable for download. You can search for specific fonts, or just use their “Popular Fonts” button. Either way, you should be able to find something you like.

Da Font is a huge database of free fonts that you can browse through, and download.

Fontes Gratis is a site with lots of cool free fonts available for download. Search their extensive databse, and simply download the fonts you like.

Font Jazz is a tiny typographic engine written in JavaScript, enabling webdesigners and developers to use any typeface on a website. FontJazz implements a simple type-rendering engine in JavaScript, which means that any headlines are rendered 100% client-side, without any kind of server-side dependencies or bandwidth overhead. FontJazz requires the user’s browser to fetch only a single image and a tiny JavaScript file, and only once for any number of headlines. Quite cool, and completely free!

My Font Book is somewhat different from the other sites on this list, as it is a nifty tool for viewing your font collection from your web browser.
Use web-apps instead of expensive software

I have a huge collection of great web 2.0 sites that I want to share with you – and it’s all free! Yes, free, just look around, and you will definitely find some great sites that offer great web apps or Software as a Service (SaaS).

If you are here, you probably already know what these terms cover. Just in case you don’t, it is a catch phrase for sites that offer online software. Basically, it’s something you can use instead of having to buy your own software. It is often free, and in any case, it is a LOT cheaper than buying your own.

I am not affiliated with any of the sites that I talk about, I have just been busy finding sites for my own use, and now that I have a really extensive collection of sites, I figured I might as well share them with you. Look around, and you may just find a site that will make your life a lot easier (and save you a lot of money). I will be adding new ones all the time, so don’t forget to check back once in a while.

All the info on the site is completely free, and 100% human edited, by me, Jens Rothenborg. If you like what you see, you could consider using the form in the sidebar to donate a buck or two to help keep my site running.

A long list of useful invoicing websites for both small and large businesses. If you are a freelancer, some can be used for free.

There are lots of really good invoicing sites out there.
Depending on your needs, you will actually be able to use some of them for free. If, for example, you send less than 20 invoices a month, Saasu might be a really good option. For more than 20 invoices, they start charging, though. Some offer completely free plans, but without the ability to customise the invoices with logo etc. Others charge a few bucks a month, and you might choose one of those, if look-and-feel of the invoice is important to you.
