Blogs are great if you want to publish content, and don’t want to worry too much the technical stuff. Most of them are pretty straightforward, and they are mostly free for the average user. They can be really useful, and many of them can take the place of a regular website. Look through the list here, and find the best one for you. Then start bloggin’!
- Axess is a free service to create web pages. They do not provide image hosting, so you will need to use another service to upload your images.
- Blogger lets you in just a few steps. In a matter of minutes you can start posting text, photos, videos, and more to your blog. Post as often as you want; it’s free. You can have a domain name, like example.com, and they’ll still host your blog.
- Blogspot is exactly the same service a Blogger.com
- Gabbr allows you to read and comment on the latest news across major news sources as well as the blogosphere. Bloggers can submit their blog posts to appear on the front page for others to comment on. Looks like a busy discussionforum, somewhat cluttered.
- Livejournal is an online journal service with an emphasis on user interaction. A basic, fully-functional account is free, while Paid accounts receive access to premium features. The USD 19.95 a year price for Paid Accounts is only available with automatic payments. LiveJournal Support is primarily run by volunteers.
- Moveable Type lets you build websites and blogs with Movable Type’s integrated suite of social networking, blogging and content management features.
- Posterous is a really simple service where you can email your contents to the Posterous email, and that way create a webpage with them. Basically, you attach photos, vidoe, mp3’s etc. You can also autopost to other blogs via Posterous.

Chat can be good to have on your website, if you want to give people a way to contact you online. There are different approaches to chat functionality form the vendors below, and obviously different pricing. Some are even free, if you only need one operator (yourself), and have only a limited number of chats per month.
- Paltalk Free voice and video chat with up to 10 people – include your AIM, Y! and ICQ pals. Chat Rooms, Instant Messaging & Video Chat.
- Adobe Connect has screen sharing, chat, notes, audio, and video to conduct meetings online. Free for up to 3 people.
- Oggchat incorporates a customizable chat window for your website but routes all live chats directly to your operators’ Gmail accounts. Free version, or USD 10, 20 30 plans.

These days, it has become mush easier to host classes on the web. Schools are getting into the action, and you can do this yourself. By using some of the tools below, you can work in new and exciting ways either teaching, or getting taught online.
- Cramberry helps you study flash cards online. Choose from thousands of sets made by other users and share your own flash cards with the world. Study away from your computer by printing each set, or use our iPhone app.
- Classtools allows you to create free educational games, activities and diagrams in a Flash. Each template can be saved as a stand-alone HTML file or as a Widget that can be embedded into a blog or wiki.
- The Public School is a school with no curriculum. First, classes are proposed by the public, then, people have the opportunity to sign up for the classes, finally, when enough people have expressed interest, the school finds a teacher. Adding new locations.
- Gradelink is an online grading, attendance, and school administration system. Teachers can enter grades, attendance, and can instantly monitor student performance from school or at home. Student and class reports are easily created. Not free.
- Mendeley lets you organize, share and discover research papers. Works like an iTunes™ for research papers. A free research management tool for desktop & web, it’s a site that offers academic software to organize research papers. You can also explore research trends and connect to other academics in your discipline.
- Typingweb helps you learn to type or improve your typing skills with the free keyboarding lessons. Completely free.

These sites all have different approaches to bookmarking, so check them out, and find the best one for you. Some are meant for use on your site, and some are meant for allowing you to store your bookmarks acress the web.
- Delicio.us basically makes bookmarking buttons and add-ons for your browser or website. With their Hotlist, you can see the most popular bookmarks on Delicious. A very big network of bookmarks.
- Evernote can be used for creating text and ink notes, to snapshots of whiteboards and wine labels, to clips of webpages. Lets users capture anything from their real and digital lives and find it all anytime. For free.
- Addthis makes sharing easy for blogs, websites etc. Add the buttons to your site, and let users easily bookmark it, or send your link to others. Free.
- Wibiya enables blogs to integrate services, applications and widgets of their choice into their blog through customized web-based toolbars. Rests at the bottom of the screen, includes Facebook, Twitter, chat, rss and lots more.
