Bloggingsites

Blogs are great if you want to publish content, and don’t want to worry too much the technical stuff. Most of them are pretty straightforward, and they are mostly free for the average user. They can be really useful, and many of them can take the place of a regular website. Look through the list here, and find the best one for you. Then start bloggin’!

  • Axess is a free service to create web pages. They do not provide image hosting, so you will need to use another service to upload your images.
  • Blogger lets you in just a few steps. In a matter of minutes you can start posting text, photos, videos, and more to your blog. Post as often as you want; it’s free. You can have a domain name, like example.com, and they’ll still host your blog.
  • Blogspot is exactly the same service a Blogger.com
  • Gabbr allows you to read and comment on the latest news across major news sources as well as the blogosphere. Bloggers can submit their blog posts to appear on the front page for others to comment on. Looks like a busy discussionforum, somewhat cluttered.
  • Livejournal is an online journal service with an emphasis on user interaction. A basic, fully-functional account is free, while Paid accounts receive access to premium features. The USD 19.95 a year price for Paid Accounts is only available with automatic payments. LiveJournal Support is primarily run by volunteers.
  • Moveable Type lets you build websites and blogs with Movable Type’s integrated suite of social networking, blogging and content management features.
  • Posterous is a really simple service where you can email your contents to the Posterous email, and that way create a webpage with them. Basically, you attach photos, vidoe, mp3’s etc. You can also autopost to other blogs via Posterous.

Create and store your own free graphics with online editors.

There are some really nice sites out there, where you can create your own graphics, images etc., without paying a dime. They will let you edit and store them on the site. Using online editors from some of these sites, you can create really great looking images, even if you have no experience with working with images. Some of these sites are really amazing, and offer some pretty unique tools.

  • Apollo seems to be a way to work together on images, diagrams etc. Would probably be good for someone who works with graphics, and needs a client to comment on the artwork. The client cannot save the image, only comment on it, thus keeping your artwork safe. Looks free.
  • Brands of The World is a big library of brand logos in scalable vector format. You can search by country, company etc. BotW is also a great place for designers to upload their logo designs and professional details to get exposure, recognition and clients.
  • Gliffy is online diagram software, you can create professional-quality flowcharts, diagrams, floor plans, technical drawings, and more. Use tTheir online diagram editor to create various drawings. Gliffy is an online application that makes it easy for you to create, share, and collaborate with diagrams. There is a free version, or a USD 5 per month version.
  • GR Sites is a very nice online tool for making graphics for your website. Make buttons, boxes, backgrounds and lots of other nice stuff using the editor. You can use the free version that has certain restrictions, or pay a mothly or yearly fee (USD 9 and 5.75 respectively, or make use of the daypass that can be activated at any time. Definitely a good site if you want to creat nice graphics, and store them, without prior knowledge of graphics editing.
  • Live Banner Maker lets you create your own website banner for free. Use their templates, or start from scratch. They don’t brand your banner.You just selct the size, the colors, the text and effects, save it, and upload to your server. Can be used to create basic or intermediate banners.

Free fonts

Using the right font is something that can spice up your graphic work, whether it’s a website you are working on, or banners, T-shirts, posters or whatever.
The great thing is that there a quite a lot a nice sites that offer fonts for download. All the links provided below have something to do with fonts, and some of them can do amazing things with fonts. Check them out!

  • 1001 Fonts is a site with literally 1000’s of fonts avaliable for download. You can search for specific fonts, or just use their “Popular Fonts” button. Either way, you should be able to find something you like.
  • Da Font is a huge database of free fonts that you can browse through, and download.
  • Fontes Gratis is a site with lots of cool free fonts available for download. Search their extensive databse, and simply download the fonts you like.
  • Font Jazz is a tiny typographic engine written in JavaScript, enabling webdesigners and developers to use any typeface on a website. FontJazz implements a simple type-rendering engine in JavaScript, which means that any headlines are rendered 100% client-side, without any kind of server-side dependencies or bandwidth overhead. FontJazz requires the user’s browser to fetch only a single image and a tiny JavaScript file, and only once for any number of headlines. Quite cool, and completely free!
  • My Font Book is somewhat different from the other sites on this list, as it is a nifty tool for viewing your font collection from your web browser. The font viewer allows you to easily review and catalog all of your installed fonts. The font viewer window provides an overview of all your installed fonts. I personally really like it, as it works 100% online, has a nice clean design, and works fast. Free.
  • Search Free Fonts say they have over 13.000 fonts, and it does look like a big site. Definitely looks like they have a font for pretty much any use.
  • Typetester is an online application for comparison of the fonts for the screen. Its primary role is to make web designer’s life easier. Simply edit, enter or paste sample text in the textarea. As the new fonts are bundled into operating systems, the list of the common fonts will be updated. Typetester will not work without JavaScript enabled. Free, and a cool site.
  • Fonteo is another site with thousands of free fonts.

Free icons and vectors for download

Icons is something that can spruce up the look of your website, but they can be really hard to draw. Luckily, there are sites who specialize in serving up 100’s of beautiful and colorful icons, and let you download them for free. Here is a list.

  • Favicon is a little different from the rest of the sites on this list, because they let you design socalled favicons. A favicon is the icon you see next to the URL, when you type in the web-adress. A neat site, with a free service.
  • Icones is a searchengibe that specialises in finding icons on other sites. Works pretty much like Google, but for icons.
  • Iconfinder provides high quality icons for webdesigners and developers in an easy and efficient way. You can search thousands of icons from outside websites. Loads really fast, and is very intuitive.
  • Iconpot is another collection of icons. All are freely downloadable, according to the site.
  • All Free vectors is an index of free vector files available on the World Wide Web. They link to free and public domain vector files, and allow people to upload their own vector files for free download.
  • Vista Icons is a very professionol looking site with thousands of great looking icons. Some restrictions apply to the icons, but you will find lots and lots of icons avalable for download for personal and even commercial use.

On this list, you will find some really great sites. Some are 100% online, some a for download. Some are 100% free, some cost a little. Whether you need some nice images for your website, are looking for a site where you can make your own graphics, or just want to tweak some images you already have, you will find some great sites for that here.   • 3D Pack is a 3d-box graphic generator. 3d package lets you instantly create 3d-box images online, free! Just upload pictures for cover and sides and then get 3d-box in you favorite image format (JPG, GIF, PNG supported).
  • Animoto lets you turn your photos and video clips into videos. By analyzing the nuances of your music, photos and video clips, Animoto automatically produces a custom video in minutes. Free with their logo, eller USD 250 per year for a commerciel license.
  • Aviary consists of layer-based image editor, a visual lab for creating amazing effects and visualizations and color pallette coordinator. Free. The premium version costs USD 25 per year, and also includes a vector editor. Pretty amazing site.
